About Eyevistar®

A natural, standardized marigold flower extract derived from Tagetes erecta L., providing a defined combination of 20% lutein and 4% zeaxanthin.

What is Eyevistar®

Two macular carotenoids in one standardized ingredient

Eyevistar® is a natural, standardized marigold flower extract derived from Tagetes erecta L. It provides a defined combination of 20% lutein and 4% zeaxanthin, two naturally occurring xanthophyll carotenoids that are selectively concentrated in the macular region of the retina.

Lutein and zeaxanthin contribute to the formation of macular pigment. Within the eye, these carotenoids help filter high-energy blue light and neutralize reactive oxygen species, supporting the protection of retinal cells from phototoxic and oxidative stress. Because the human body cannot synthesize lutein and zeaxanthin, they must be obtained through dietary or supplemental sources.

Marigold flowers are recognized as an abundant commercial source of lutein and zeaxanthin. Eyevistar® combines both carotenoids in one standardized ingredient intended for eye-health and visual-performance nutraceutical formulations.

Differentiation

What makes Eyevistar® different?

Eyevistar® has been evaluated through complementary in-vitro and in-vivo preclinical studies focused on retinal oxidative stress, carotenoid bioavailability, A2E formation and lipofuscin accumulation.

In ARPE-19 human retinal pigment epithelial cells, Eyevistar® maintained high cell viability across tested concentrations and increased cell proliferation by 33.59%, 46.15% and 62.31% at concentrations of 125, 250 and 500 µg/mL, respectively. It also protected retinal cells from UV-A-induced oxidative injury and reduced the accumulation of A2E and lipofuscin.

In a high-fat-diet-induced retinal stress model, Eyevistar® was administered at 2.5, 5 and 10 mg/kg for 42 days. The study reported dose-dependent restoration of lutein and zeaxanthin in plasma and macular tissue, with the strongest response at 10 mg/kg. Histopathology and transmission electron microscopy findings indicated preservation of retinal architecture and reduced retinal lipofuscin accumulation.

A placebo-controlled human study evaluating lutein and zeaxanthin for macular pigment optical density, photostress recovery, glare disability and contrast sensitivity is ongoing. Until final results are available, Eyevistar® is described as preclinically studied rather than clinically proven.
