Introducing Eyevistar®

Science-backed marigold extract for retinal health

Eyevistar®, made from marigold flower extract derived from Tagetes erecta L., is a standardized carotenoid ingredient containing 20% lutein and 4% zeaxanthin. Lutein and zeaxanthin are naturally occurring xanthophyll carotenoids that concentrate in the macular region of the eye, where they contribute to macular pigment formation, filter high-energy blue light and help neutralize reactive oxygen species.

Eyevistar has been evaluated through in-vitro and in-vivo studies for its antioxidant, cytoprotective and anti-lipofuscin properties. It is intended for use in dietary supplements and nutraceutical formulations developed to support retinal integrity, macular health and long-term visual performance.

Health Benefits

Formulated around the biology of the macula

Supports Retinal Integrity

Helps maintain retinal pigment epithelial cell function and retinal architecture under oxidative stress conditions.

Promotes Macular Carotenoid Status

Supports the delivery and deposition of lutein and zeaxanthin in plasma and macular tissue.

Provides Antioxidant Defence

Supports antioxidant capacity and the activity of protective enzymes including SOD, CAT and glutathione peroxidase.

Helps Control Lipofuscin Accumulation

Demonstrated reductions in A2E and lipofuscin accumulation in preclinical retinal models.

Supports Long-Term Visual Performance

Provides the macular carotenoids required for blue-light filtration and protection against retinal oxidative stress.

Supports Healthy Retinal Stress Response

Preclinical findings showed modulation of retinal and mitochondrial stress-related markers, including VEGF, HSP60 and ARMS2.

Preclinical Proof

Measured in retinal cells and animal models

Retinal Cell Study

In ARPE-19 retinal pigment epithelial cells, Eyevistar increased cell proliferation by 33.59%, 46.15% and 62.31% at concentrations of 125, 250 and 500 µg/mL, respectively.

Following UV exposure, Eyevistar supported cell viability of 81.19% at 250 µg/mL and 100.64% at 500 µg/mL. It also reduced UV-induced A2E accumulation and decreased the presence of lipofuscin granules observed through transmission electron microscopy.

In-Vivo Evaluation

In a 42-day high-fat-diet animal model, Eyevistar was administered at 2.5, 5 and 10 mg/kg body weight. The 10 mg/kg group showed the strongest restoration of plasma and macular lutein and zeaxanthin levels, together with improvements in antioxidant biomarkers, retinal architecture and lipofuscin accumulation.

Research Status

A double-blind, placebo-controlled human study evaluating lutein and zeaxanthin for macular pigment optical density, photostress recovery, glare disability and contrast sensitivity is ongoing.
